This Weekend in Detroit


Making plans for Father’s Day should be easy with this weekend’s batch of festivals, concerts, and plays. There are events to thrill and entertain people of all ages as the summer season kicks into gear.

Adults and children of all ages are invited to enjoy carnival games, rides, and the Old Mill Arts and Crafts Show at downtown Utica’s annual Riverwalk Festival. This year’s festival boasts two stages for entertainment, a fireworks show on Saturday night, and a classic car show and parade Sunday afternoon.

Jazzin’ on Jefferson

Detroit, MIFriday, June 14, 4 pm – 9 pmSaturday, June 15, Noon – 9 pm
Live jazz, blues, and gospel music will enliven downtown Detroit as this street festival celebrates the renaissance of the East Jefferson Neighborhood. This free event will also feature an artist’s market, ethnic foods, and waterfront tours.

Belleville National Strawberry Festival

Belleville, MI

Sunday, June 16, 9 am – 7 pm
This year’s event boasts two midways filled with carnival rides and games, a parade, and strawberry-themed foods. With a special car show on Sunday afternoon, this festival will be a very sweet treat for Father’s Day weekend.

ARCA Racing Series Patriot Pumps 200

This day of practice laps by Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jeff Gordon and others will be capped by the ARCA race. With sponsor displays and food available, the more relaxed atmosphere and free admission for children will cater to families.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quicken Loans 400

After a year of anticipation, the Sprint Cup Series returns to the Michigan International Speedway. Driving on NASCAR’s fastest track, defending winner, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., will face Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and 40 other drivers for 200 laps.
