Wakey! Wakey! is coming to Toronto!

Well get ready because Wakey Wakey is coming to Toronto. This type of music is great for so many types of people because it blends easy listening piano and strings with loving top quality pop vocals of the smooth variety.

Now, before you get too excited, it’s worth noting that frontman Michael Grubbs was schooled in the classical style of music in his childhood.

This gives him a firm footing in playing wonderful songs such as “Brooklyn” with it’s humble tone and beautiful vocals.

WAKEY! WAKEY! IS COMING TO TORONTO! The whole setlist is going to be a bit hard to predict, but if anything it should include some hits like “Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said the Last Time I Saw You”

This song really preaches a load of hope, and it talks about inner city struggles of most people. It’s well worth a listen, especially if you tend toward the emo-mush type of stuff, which I do.

Wakey Wakey“Blame You” comes through as a promise to a past love, both of forgiveness and future plans to get back together. I mean, the girls in the room will practically be diving for Grubbs at this point, at any live show anyway. “I know you want to stay in babe, but it’s light outside” these are the opening lyrics to “Light Outside”, a mellow reminiscing kind of rambling tune from Grubbs. Plenty of sweet strings and uplifting lyrics make this track a totally upbeat experience. The video features a girl dancing through feathers, which is enough to bring this reviewer to even crack a smile.

Grubbs superb piano playing is featured on another track, Car Crash.

This track shows off some serious violin solo power, and talks about a tale of love lost. You can almost feel the hair on the back of Grubbs’s neck as he croons his way through this ballad.

“Got it all wrong” is another song in this vein, featuring a more upbeat tempo, wandering again through lost love, and again more strings. Overall I’d say you should listen to Wakey! Wakey!’s album, and see them if you get a chance. For your convenience, I’ve posted upcoming shows wherever they may be found.
