New and Exciting – 2 Click Calendar Reminders!

Don’t Sleep through tickets going on sale.. get a reminder (Free)

BoxOfficeHero new lets you save calendar reminders to buy tickets directly into Google CalendarsOutlook, and even your iPhone!

– no registration required –

– no sms messages, no email to receive –

5 minutes before it’s time to buy tickets – your calendar app alarm will ring

Best of all – this new feature is available to everyone, if you’ve joined BoxOfficeHero or not. Since we DON’T send this reminder by email it won’t get lost or delayed – and you won’t feel silly since you WILL remember to buy your tickets as they go on sale.

Have a look at how it will help you remember to buy tickets

So let’s say you find an event that’s interesting and you’re really hoping to get tickets when they go on sale -so far so good!

If you’re a genius with a schedule and can remember every detail, perhaps you can remember to come back to your computer and open up the right page at 9:55 in the morning…

The rest of us need a bit of help – fortunately there are calendar programs that are widely used – Outlook, Google Calendar, Hotmail and yes – even iCal (On Macs, iPhones, iPads etc).

This new feature doesn’t require registration – just click twice!

Now if you find an event that has tickets that aren’t on sale yet, look over on the right sidebar and you’ll see this:

Clicking or tapping on that calendar button will bring up a list of services that you can create an event in. For you Yahoo Calendar users please be patient – we’re working out some bugs that make the on-sale time off by hours, but so far everything works well in the calendars we are supporting right now:

  • Outlook
  • Google Calendar
  • Hotmail Calendar
  • iCal Calendar

A menu will appear and you can choose which calendar service you want to add  the reminder to.

Put reminders into your iphone for when tickets go on sale in two taps

Pick a calendar service and we’ll put the public on sale into your calendar in no time at all!

One more click or tap and your calendar service will appear and let you confirm the event details. The system should include the name of the event, a link to BoxOfficeHero, as well as the date of the show.

By putting calendar reminders only a few clicks away we’re hoping to help more people get their tickets at face value – so they can avoid the sting of going to brokers or eBay for tickets.

Plus as an added bonus if you want to share the event or invite other people to buy tickets with you – you can use the invitation functions in your calendar program to share the event, and invite others!

Yes – we did also take into account timezones and so the reminder *should* be timed correctly regardless of where you are and where the event is going on sale – you should have about 5 minutes to get ready once the timer goes off.

What do you think – useful? Boring?

We’re undergoing some scaling problems – and may be moving our hosting to a much more capable environment shortly – stay tuned and bear with us.

How to get your ebay listings to appear on BoxOfficeHero (oh yeah, we do that now)

BoxOfficeHero now locates ebay auctions that match an event you’re looking at and will show you ticket prices IF there are matching auctions on ebay. This is being done to give you another source of tickets you can use to help find better selection, access to sold out events and to help make all your options appear as quickly as possible.

Sadly, it’s not perfect – yet.

Since Sellers can set their own titles for auctions, and we’re *still* waiting for approval to use the ebay API to get more detailed listing information, we had to settle for searching for the Event Name, City and Date in mm/dd/yy format. Surprisingly this covers a fair number of the tickets being sold on ebay right now – and so if you’re browsing tickets for an event and see something like this, don’t be surprised:

One example of how ebay listings for tickets will appear on BoxOfficeHero

An Example Listing

Now, you might notice that we’ve included a small warning on each ebay ticket listing: double-check event details before purchasing on ebay.

Just because we *think* the listing is for the same event does NOT make it so – always verify with the seller to ensure that you are getting the tickets you expect to be getting. Don’t take it on faith that if we linked to the auction, the tickets must be real, the seller is legit and the event is still upcoming.. in the course of our testing we found active listings for Madonna tickets where the event has been over and done for MANY months.. which is confusing to us, and a potential problem for you.

Another example of how BoxOfficeHero is helping to get you better deals on tickets

Another example, this one without the current price

So – remember to check to make sure you know exactly what you’re buying – and hope you enjoy the additional ticket options!

For ebay sellers who want to have their inventory featured – make sure your auction has the city and date in the description and we *should* pick it up automatically. The system does cache content for a little while to make things faster – but you should see your auction appear in about an hour, sometimes less.

So what do you think – does anyone still use ebay when buying tickets?

What services besides the box office and ebay would you like to see us integrate with next?

Development update – invite your friends!

Just a few things to update you all about: First, the Tell a Friend feature now works correctly – so if you’re already a member, head over to the home page and click the big golden megaphone to spread the word!

Secondly – we *think* we’ve sorted out the issues with duplicated artists and events. Stay tuned for more.

Third – We’re adding more GoldStar deals, TicketFly events and hope to have ScoreBig deals on the site soon.

Lastly we’re very excited to see that Google has started sending visitors our way, Thanks Google!
